NO RED TAPE Vinyl Imprint Premiere, “Droppin Out” by The Rats of New York, with Reviews

This 2013 single is The Rats of New York’s THIRD HIT in the MAXIMUM ROCKNROLL MAGAZINE TOP TEN reviews, since this band started in 2005.

I’ve listened to the A-side three times now and haven’t even thought about flipping the record over..

- Issue 363, K.K., Maximum RocknRoll, August 2013

The Rats have emerged in NY streets in 2005 and have released four records since then on small labels like Puta Records (“The Rats EP” in 2007 and “I Don’t Understand It” in 2009), or No Red Tape (“The Tabloids” inspired by tabloids titles in 2012 and “Droppin’Out” in 2013). Their last one is certainly their best one with catchy punky tunes “Droppin’Out” and ” Cannibal Cannibal” that remind me The Undertones or late seventies NY bands.

NO RED TAPE Vinyls Imprint extended naturally from the NRT Cassette Comps project, with logo by David Allen of Art Trouble (designer for Iggy Pop, DEVO, The Zeros, Bomp Magazine, A&M, Warner Bros, Island Records and many independent labels).

The logo features NRT’s dear old Olive, the analog tape machine that has mastered most of the bands we have produced, and continues to ZAP her one-of-a-kind tube preamps into the sounds of NO RED TAPE.

The Impulse Intl. 10” review in Razorcake

¡Puta’s! very own Impulse International written up in Razorcake!

Excerpt:

IMPULSE INTERNATIONAL, THE:
Mini Album: 10″

…This really is their best record yet, and they’ve had a string of pretty good records. A lot of folks are trying their hand at power pop lately, and most sound stale and fake. Not here. This sounds like it came from the late ‘70s/early ‘80s. If this was released in 1975, it would have probably come out on Bomp! or a label of similar repute. I put this on, first song, “Bicycle Rider” comes on. I think it’s pretty good. Then “Where Did the Girls Go?” follows. I think it’s even better. Then the next song comes on. That one is better, then the next, and… I almost want to laugh because this is so good it’s near unbelievable…

…No summer is complete without some Impulse International in it. –Matt Average

Live at The Local 269 – Volume 1

We are all zooted up about Volume 1 of a new live recording series from Local 269 ( former historic lesbian bar Meow Mix, turned Rock N Roll haven)

Friday June 24th was the first performance in the series, hosted by The Underclass Revue

The show featured Born Loose, The Brimstones, The Dirty Shames, The Rats of New York, and a special appearance by Tommy Volume

In addition, a milieu of  biker-styled chicks made the scene ala Wild Ones, to play the marauding lady gang during The Rats’ video shoot for their upcoming single Fingerbang Gang (video whiz David Horowitz at the camera helm). What a better place to film this scene than the velvet halls of the old Meow Mix!

Check back soon about this…  Bill the sound engineer at Local 269 received tons of compliments on the incredible acoustics of the bar. Everyone in the crowd noticed how well you could hear the bands and how all the old pine and cedar lined walls soaked up the overtones just right!

Cant wait to hear some rough mixes. Production formats will run from 2 inch Ampex to master tapes and then to 7 inch virgin vinyl (45 rpm).

Photos by David Vega and video clips by David Horowitz coming soon. Yours truly will be producing on this project, along with Bill 269 and others.

- Jake Rat
